Writers & Readers Publishing [on Amazon] As former Editor-in-Chief of the Beginners Series, it breaks my heart to see the series in such disarray. I consider many of the writers and artists my friends. To the best of my knowledge, there is no place that currently lists all of the Beginners Books -- nor is there any single place at which you can buy all of the books. Under the present circumstances, the only way I can think of < to list ALL of the books in one place < to include descriptions of the books < to list the author & illustrator < to give people a simple, convenient way to buy the books ... plus < great reproductions of the covers < several (usually 10 to 15) sample pages < reader reviews < the opportunity for authors to comment on and help sell their own books -- was to provide links to each of the Beginners Books on Amazon. I don't have any connection to Writers & Readers or to Amazon. It's a great series; I put a lot of soul into it -- I either wrote or "midwifed" half of the books! -- I hate to see it go to waste. If Glenn were here, he'd revive the series ... then he'd crash it again! As many of you know, there was a conflict (to say the least) between Writers & Readers and Icon/Totem books. I can't speak for either publisher; but as the former Editor-in-Chief of the series and as the author of three Beginners Books, I say "Bury the hatchet." There are great books in both series. please note: Juan Carlos Kreimer's Era Naciente series is living proof that both series can coexist gracefully. Era Naciente publishes the Spanish versions of some of the best books from both Writers & Readers and Icon. presently have no connection with Writers & Readers. I hate
what's happening to our books, and since I was starting a website, it
occurred to me to do a little W&R website to see if I could help all
of us. At some point I
hope to start a kind of Writers & Readers Newsletter. Glenn
& I talked about it quite a bit. Dave Cogswell, Paul Gordon
& I brainstormed it. Icon has a beautiful Online Newsletter.

PLEASE NOTE: New information demands a change of plans Writers & Readers now have their own website -- W&R. Support the resurgence of the company by buying books from their own website when possible. If you want to buy one of the few Beginners Books that are currently unavailable on W&R's website, click on the book's title above to find that book on Amazon. I will encourage Writers & Readers to expand their website to include everything Amazon has-- < to include descriptions of the books < to list the author & illustrator < to give people a simple, convenient way to buy the books (which they've already done) < great reproductions of the covers (which they've also done) < show several (usually 10 to 15) sample pages < reader reviews < the opportunity for authors to comment on and help sell their own books Plus other things that Amazon does not have, like < a Newsletter < an ongoing attempt to query readers about things like < what books they'd like W&R to do in the future < taking the series in new directions so that W&R knows what its readers want instead of having to speculate about it < how they would feel about the series including NON-illustrated books < discussions with authors < querying readers about
Frankly, I am not sure how (or IF) I'll proceed on this W&R's stuff. Now that they've started their own website, they're at least moving in the right direction. I wish them luck. Ron D
